Sin despeinarse y con un verdadero concierto de disparos al arco, Manchester United derrotó 2-0 al Schalke 04 en el partido de ida de la semifinal de la Liga de Campeones de Europa jugado en Gelsenkirchen, Alemania.La superioridad inglesa fue tal que el marcador no refleja en lo absoluto lo que sucedió en la cancha. De no ser por la gran actuación del también portero de la selección alemana, Manuel Neuer, el resultado pudo ser escandaloso y definitivo en la serie.
Desde el silbatazo inicial las llegadas de los Diablos Rojos fueron el común denominador. 'Chicharito' Hernández, Wayne Rooney, Ji Sung Park, Ryan Giggs, prácticamente medio equipo inglés tuvo su oportunidad frente al marco ante la inconmensurable figura de Neuer, que mantuvo el cero en el arco todo el primer tiempo.
Para la segunda mitad Schalke hizo modificaciones en la defensa con la única intención de no recibir gol pese a estar en casa. El emblemático Raúl y el peruano Farfán, pelearon en solitario sin crear una sola acción de peligro en todo el juego.
Después de tanto insistir, en dos minutos y con jugadas similares con pase a profundiad, Giggs y Rooney, sentenciaron el marcador con sus goles.
Tras las anotaciones Manchester United conciente de su superioridad se relajó y dejó que el tiempo transcurriera, conforme con la renta obtenida en suelo ajeno.
El mexicano Javier Hernández tuvo una labor destacada con buenos movimientos en el área y un pase de gol, aunque falló tres opciones claras y salió de cambio en el segundo tiempo por Anderson.
El ganador de esta serie se enfrentará al ganador del choque entre Real Madrid y Barcelona, en la gran final en Wembley, Inglaterra.
